5 x my favourite travel toys!

Long haul flights and train rides are possibly the worst activity with young children. These five travel toys won’t make it easy, but they might make it easier.

On the website I have added practical packing lists – I’m using my own all the time – and dozens of travels toys for kids aged 9 months – 12 years. When we travel long hauls, I usually pack a ‘surprise backpack’ with objects from home and some new toys.

In this journal I’m sharing five toys that have helped us through lots of long trips holidays. If you are planning on travelling soon, make sure you also check the ideas for Surprise Backpacks!

1. Yoto Mini – a screen free audio player

3 – 12 yrs

Travel toys: our favourite is Yoto!

Yoto Mini Player is the favourite toy I ever gifted our child. It’s an audio player where kids are in full control, using cards to play their favourite stories or music.

I bought a Yoto player for Lila when she was three years old and we went on a two month trip to Japan and Vietnam. It was the best gift I ever gave her. She used it to fall asleep, on train trips and just while walking the streets of Tokyo.

With headphones when in public spaces, because playing things out loud is frowned upon! And adventure jacket to protect it. Click here for tips for cards for 3 – 12 YRS old!

2. Djeco Window Stickers

12 – 36 Months

Travel toys: super helpful these window stickers!

These window stickers have kept Ima occupied for a surprising amount of time.

3. Maileg Mouses

18 Months – 7 YRS

Travel toys: Maileg mouses are tiny and versatile
Paris, Tokyo, Vietnam, Valencia, they went many places…

Our Maileg mouses have seen quite some parts of the world. They always come on trips and I always add something that relates to the destination (swimsuit or knit hat) or to the child. (Potty!)

It says from 3 years old, but my second daughter has had a Sleep / Wake Maileg Mouse since she was 18 – months and she loves putting it to sleep in its matchbox and waking it up. I’ve recently added a Maileg potty when we went on a trip, because she started using the potty.

4. Djeco Mosaics

4 – 10 YRS

travel toys: Djeco craft books are perfect!

This (or this) + Yoto stories keep my daughter quiet and occupied for hours

5. CONNETIX Magnetic Tiles

We have lots of these tiles, and Connetix offers free educational games on their website. Such as letters, numbers, shapes, animals. It’s amazing, for at home, but also for travelling.

My two-year old enjoys playing with magnetic tiles too, but they are rated for 3+! Just stay around as a parent.
